Cystic Fibrosis Trust responds to £39 million cash injection for AMR research

Dr Lucy Allen, Director of Research and Healthcare data at Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: "There have been no new types of antimicrobial drugs, such as antibiotics, developed for over 30 years, which is why we’re pleased to see this government cash injection for AMR research today. While AMR is a concern for everyone, people living with cystic fibrosis (CF) are particularly vulnerable - left untreated, these infections can cause permanent lung damage, and in the worst cases, death.

"Cystic Fibrosis Trust is funding innovative research to understand and treat harmful lung infections and prevent infections. The CF AMR Syndicate, of which we are a leading partner, aims to speed up the discovery process for new antimicrobial drugs, using the combined expertise of its members and the wider research community. Despite improvements in treatments, cystic fibrosis is still a cruel condition without a cure. There is so much more to do to stop CF damaging and shortening lives, and this government investment is an important step on that journey."
