CF Tummy Tracker: a patient reported outcome measure for gut symptoms in CF

Study details

Tummy symptoms such as bloating, pain and nausea are common for people with cystic fibrosis (CF). These symptoms can be embarrassing and disruptive to everyday life. Despite this, most questionnaires used in CF research are not actually CF-specific. We need to change this.

It is important that we have a CF-specific tool so that researchers can understand the daily impact of tummy symptoms for people with CF when it comes to studies, trials, treatments and ongoing care. This will help us address the CF tummy issues that matter most to YOU. Not just the things that clinicians and researchers think are important.

That’s why we’re developing CF Tummy Tracker. CF Tummy Tracker will be the first scoring system to allow you to track the daily impact of your tummy symptoms on a smartphone app.
We are inviting you to download the app and complete the CF Tummy Tracker score every day for 14 days. We will also ask you to fill in some longer questionnaires at the beginning and the end of the 2 week study so that we can compare CF Tummy Tracker with other measures of gut symptoms.

There is more information about CF Tummy Tracker on our website. You will also find directions to the App Store or Google Play where you can download the app and sign up to the study: https://cftummytracker.org

Study results

151 people with CF signed up to test CF Tummy Tracker® in a smartphone app. To take part, they were asked to download the app and answer 10 daily questions for two weeks. 57% of the people who signed up completed the questions for at least 10 days.

Nearly all said the questions were clear, relevant and helped them become more aware of their tummy symptoms. Participants said the app was quick to use, simple to navigate, and almost 7 out of 10 said they would use the app again.

This supports CF Tummy Tracker as a reliable way to monitor tummy symptoms in future CF studies. CF Tummy Tracker will continue to be tested in future studies. It is currently being tested in another trial, GRAMPUS-CF.

The full results are available on the CF Tummy Tracker website.
