MAGNIFY: Pulmonary Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) for Cystic Fibrosis.
Study detailsMAGNIFY is a new research study that aims to look at the lung health of people with cystic fibrosis over time by taking detailed pictures of the lungs using a type of clinical scan called Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which can detect small changes in the lungs when a special gas called Xenon is inhaled. It has been shown that these pictures can detect changes in how the lungs work in those living with cystic fibrosis before any changes are detected using standard measures of lung function.
This study is funded by Cystic Fibrosis Trust and is part of the Magnify Strategic Research Centre (SRC) work. Find out more about MAGNIFY SRC.
This study is looking at lung pictures from many different people with CF. Currently this study is looking to recruit adults and children with CF who are not taking modulators (such as Kaftrio) or have not tolerated them.
During each study visit participants will be asked to have an MRI scan which will involve inhaling a special gas called Xenon while pictures of your lungs are being taken. Scanning should take approximately 45 minutes. MRI scanning involves no radiation and is completely safe to perform. It is possible to have breaks during scanning, and a parent/guardian may come into the scan room to provide support to their children if required. Participants will also be asked to perform a selection of breathing tests. Participants may be familiar with some of these clinical tests, others may be completely new. Reasonable travel will be reimbursed, and participants will receive a gift voucher as a thank you.
