Alyftrek available in Northern Ireland and Wales

News -

Following approval for its use in England, Alyftrek (vanza triple) is now available in Northern Ireland and Wales

Alyftrek (deutivacaftor/tezacaftor/vanzacaftor) is a new once-a-day triple combination modulator drug. It provides a treatment option for some people with cystic fibrosis who are not eligible or able to take Kaftrio and an alternative for people who are already taking Kaftrio.

This is an important moment for people with cystic fibrosis and it is thanks to years of campaigning that people in Wales and Northern Ireland have access to new treatments.

We must remember that these medicines are not a cure, and do not work for everyone. Cystic Fibrosis Trust will not stop until everyone with CF can live a life unlimited.

In Scotland, the Scottish Medicines Consortium (SMC) is assessing Alyftrek through a separate process. We continue to monitor progress and you can see direct updates from the SMC on their website.

In the meantime, the SMC also advised that, on a case by case basis, clinicians can use the peer approved clinical system (PACS) tier two process. This allows them to request Alyftrek if they believe it will have a large health benefit for someone with CF.
