“My gran is absolutely over the moon”: Andrew’s Kaftrio story

Blog -

Andrew, 24, tells us about his recent hike in the Ochil Hills

Dumyat is in the Ochil Hills, not very far from where I live in Stirling. It’s 418m high, so it’s pretty big, not a tiny wee hill!

It took us about two hours to get to the top – me, my girlfriend, Mum, Gran, and the dogs! It isn’t that long ago that I wouldn’t even have attempted it, but since Kaftrio, I’ve felt really amazing.

I had to leave my job two years ago. I was working at a go-karting centre as a marshal, which was a really active job. I’m a big fan of Formula One, so it was up my street, really. But I got to the point where I needed a feeding tube put in to control my weight, so I couldn’t keep working there anymore.

Then along came Kaftrio. It’s made such an impact on my life – compared to a couple of years ago, my physical health is absolutely phenomenal. I’m able to make goals for the future now. I start college in a month which I didn’t think I’d ever be able to do. I’m going to be studying sound production, so mixing music, putting music in films, that kind of thing. I’m really looking forward to starting!

When Kaftrio first came to England, my gran got straight in touch with the Scottish Health Secretary, saying she wanted it in Scotland for her grandson! She doesn’t take no for an answer. I said to her, “just wait, Gran, it’ll come up here.” She’s absolutely over the moon with it; we all are!

I put a wee rock in the beacon at the top of the hill, to mark the achievement. It’ll serve as a reminder of just how far I’ve come – and just how far, now, that I can go.
