Longer than the Tour de France, spanning further than the UEFA European Championships, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust is calling cycling enthusiasts to saddle up for a truly unique racing challenge - to race the distance from London to Rio de Janeiro and help fight for a life unlimited by cystic fibrosis.

From Wimbledon to the Euros and all eyes turning to Brazil, 2016 will see a truly memorable summer of sport, and you can get in on the action with Ride2Rio, a virtual cycling event for teams of up to six riders, racing against teams from five other charities to see who will go the distance

‘Setting off’ on July 17, teams will have until 21 August to log their miles using the Strava or MapMyFitness apps, and will be able to track their progress using the virtual map on Ride2Rio.org.

As well as prizes for the first three teams to finish 6,000 mile journey there will also be rewards for sponsorship raising and individual distance – the more you do and the more you raise, the better!

Bev Burnham-Jones, Senior Event Development Manager at the Trust, said: “We are thrilled to be one of the six charities invited to take part in this virtual challenge. Our cycling-mad supporters are among our biggest fundraisers, and it’s great that we can offer such a unique event for them to take part in.

“Team CF will be behind every team and rider who signs up for the Trust, and we can’t wait to share the adventure with you.”

Registration is now open, so form your team, sign up and start your fundraising journey. The money you raise will help fund vital projects like this Strategic Research Centre announced recently, exploring gene editing as a treatment for the mutation that causes the build-up of mucus in the lungs.
