Statement in response to health assessments to be recorded as standard

Today (29 June), the Government announced that health assessments for disability and sickness benefits will be audio recorded as standard to improve transparency in the benefit system.

Clare Corbett, Director of External Affairs at Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: “Today's announcement that all face-to-face and telephone health assessments for disability and sickness benefits will be recorded is a positive step towards a benefits system that people with CF can trust. But our research shows that the PIP (Personal Independence Payments) system is failing people with CF so there is still much more to do. 

The Government must ensure assessors understand cystic fibrosis, end unnecessary reassessments for lifelong conditions, and make the system work for people whose health is up and down.”

“We won't stop until there is a fairer PIP system that works for people with CF.”
