What the new ‘cost of living supportive measures’ could mean for you

News -

Today in the House of Commons, the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rishi Sunak, set out measures to address the rising cost of living facing people across the UK, including those with CF.

The chancellor announced a range of measures to try and reduce the impact of soaring costs.

  • Every household in the UK is to get an energy bill discount of £400.
  • Those on the lowest incomes - around eight million people supported through welfare system - will receive a one-off cost of living payment of £650 in two lump sums.
  • Pensioners who receive the winter fuel payment will receive a one-off payment of £300.
  • £150 to individuals receiving disability benefits'
  • There will be a temporary energy profit levy (windfall tax) on the profits of oil and gas companies at a rate of 25%

People can benefit from more than one of these measures, for example if you receive Universal Credit, you would receive the energy bill discount, the low-income cost of living payment and the disability allowance.

“The measures announced by the Chancellor today will provide much-needed help to people with Cystic Fibrosis who face the pain of additional costs as result of their condition and cost of living pressures. The winter months are likely to present further challenges and we will continue to call on the government to monitor the situation and implement the additional measures that are needed.

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.

Since 1964, we've supported people with cystic fibrosis to live longer, healthier lives - and we won’t stop until everyone can live without limits imposed by CF.
