Improving Outcome Measures For Adult CF ACT Trials

This is a randomised controlled cross-over trial involving adult cystic fibrosis (CF) patients from the Royal Brompton Hospital, London investigating outcome measures used in airway clearance trials. Each participant will attend the research facility for two visits. Participants will be randomly assigned to the order that they perform the study sessions. Visit A will involve a period of rest for up to 60 minutes in-between assessments; Visit B will involve a session of airway clearance (ACT) utilising ACBT supervised by a specialist physiotherapist in adult CF. Cystic Fibrosis Trust responds to spending review

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: "It is important that there are planned increases in spending on health alongside research and innovation which are vital to people with cystic fibrosis (CF), a life-long, life-limiting condition without a cure. Ensuring that everyone with CF has access to the best treatments and care from a range of specialist healthcare professionals is critical.

"However, alongside this, it is also essential that the Government pauses and rethinks their proposals to cut entitlements to benefits, which will put some people with CF at serious risk of financial hardship at a time when their health and independence needs to be supported, not put at risk."
