65 roses for cystic fibrosis: Jane’s London Marathon World Record attempt
40 runners managed to smash world records at the Virgin Money London Marathon in 2019.
Whilst elite runner Eliud Kipchoge achieved the fastest time to run the London Marathon (male), with a time of 2:02:37, there were plenty of opportunities for others to get creative in their record breaking attempts, with the records for fastest marathon dressed as a tent, zombie, Christmas tree and more broken.
And this year, our very own Sixty Five Roses Club member, Jane Faulkner, will take on the challenge of breaking the Guinness World Record for fastest time (female) dressed as a 3D plant!
She tells us: "It was quite a battle to get a qualifying costume, I originally tried to run in a double helix and then a bouquet of flowers, but they couldn’t standardise it. After lots of back-and-forth, they've let me attempt the record dressed as a 3D plant!"
Jane will be running the entire 26.2 miles in a giant fabric rose structure with 64 smaller roses pinned on. The petals will even feature Cystic Fibrosis Trust branding - so she'll be impossible to miss!
Jane is running to raise funds and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, a cause close to her heart as her eldest son, William, was diagnosed with CF as a baby.
She says: “To be told your newborn has an incurable, life-limiting disease is truly devastating.
“The Cystic Fibrosis Trust were a huge source of support and information for myself and our family, really helping us during this difficult time.
“We have been involved in this wonderful charity ever since and have seen how they tirelessly raise awareness of the condition, campaigning for access to the newest treatments and funding cutting edge research.”
We would like to say a massive thank you to Jane for her efforts, and wish her the very best of luck in her attempt!
