Cystic Fibrosis Trust responds to announcement that PIP 'is not fit for purpose'

News -

Today (9 July), Cystic Fibrosis Trust has responded to findings from the Government’s
first comprehensive review into the disability benefit (PIP), which found it is “not fit for purpose”.

Alice Billin, Head of Policy and Public Affairs at Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said:  “The interim Timms' review report has found the PIP process is ‘degrading’, the use of supporting evidence is inconsistent, and there are low levels of trust in the system. This is exactly what people with CF have been telling us for years and as evidenced in our recent report, ‘A totally degrading experience’.

The Government must now turn recognition into action and deliver a benefits system that understands the realities of living with a lifelong, fluctuating condition, enabling people with CF to live their lives with greater independence and security. This means creating a fairer and more compassionate approach that better recognises clinical evidence, reduces unnecessary reassessments and appeals, and ensures people with CF have confidence that they will receive the right support at the right time.”
