Making clinical trial results more accessible
CF research is developing all the time, with more clinical trials opening in the UK than ever. It’s important for everyone with CF to be able to stay up to date with the latest developments in CF clinical trials.
As part of our work through the Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform (CTAP), we’re now making it easier than ever for you to stay informed about the latest clinical trials results. We’ve started adding simple summaries of recently published clinical trial results on our Trials Tracker – our database of all UK CF clinical trials – as and when they become available.

Why is sharing clinical trial results important?
Sharing results in an accessible way will help everyone with CF stay informed about what’s going on in CF research. One of the main goals of CTAP is to help more people take part in clinical trials and speed up the development of new treatments for people with CF. Sharing the latest results is an important way to engage people with CF in clinical trials and build a strong research community so we can make that happen.
The people who run clinical trials (sponsors) have a responsibility to share results publicly once they are available. However, results are often shared in a way that’s not easily accessible to the public and written in a way that is aimed at medical professionals. This can make it difficult for people with CF to stay informed about the latest results. Our aim is to share simple summaries of clinical trial results on the Trials Tracker, so that you can find them in one place and written in a way that’s easy to understand.
What results can I find now?
We have added a new function to the Trials Tracker, which means we are now able to add results as they become available. We have already begun adding summaries of results posted in the last few years, for example:
- A study looking at the safety of Kaftrio in 2-5 year olds
- A study looking at Kaftrio in people with a F508del variant and a minimal function variant
- A study looking at Ivacaftor in children aged 0-24 months with one gating variant
You won’t currently be able to see summaries for all clinical trials that are closed with results, however, we will be adding more as they become available.
How can I stay up to date with the latest results?
We will continue to post newly-published results on the Trials Tracker. We will share a social media alert when we have posted new results, so keep an eye out on our social channels. You can also stay up to date with the latest clinical trials news and updates by signing up to our Clinical Trials and Involvement newsletter.
