Professor Jane Davies is awarded OBE in King’s birthday honours

News -

Professor Jane Davies, Paediatric Respiratory Medicine and Experimental Medicine at Imperial College London and an Honorary Consultant at the Royal Brompton Hospital has been awarded an OBE for services to people with cystic fibrosis.

Professor Davies has had a long career in cystic fibrosis - as a global lead investigator on CFTR modulator trials, as clinical lead and strategy group member in the UK CF Gene Therapy Consortium, establishing and directing the Lung Clearance Core Facility on behalf of the European CF Society, leading the UK NIHR CF National Research Strategy Group and most recently, as President of the European CF Society.

It is fantastic to see the work that Professor Davies has done over so many years, to change so many lives of people with cystic fibrosis, receive this recognition.

Over the years Professor Davies has done so much to support the Trust and people with CF, their families and friends.

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of Cystic Fibrosis Trust

Professor Davies has received a number of research grants from Cystic Fibrosis Trust, and made huge contributions to the Trust’s research activities, from bench to bedside.

The Trust has supported her biomedical studies to understand more about CF lung infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa and how to diagnose and treat these infections through our Strategic Research Centre grants. She has also developed a number of links with industry and biotech to develop novel approaches to diagnosing and treating infections, that we have been proud to support through our Venture and Innovation Award funding.

Her knowledge and expertise in understanding lung infections has been invaluable as a member of the CF AMR Syndicate steering committee and the Trust’s Research Grants Review Committee. Moving towards the clinic she has shared her expertise on running CF clinical trials as a member of the Research Scientific Oversight Board of our Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform.

Professor Davies said: “It is an incredible honour to have been nominated for this award by members of the CF community. The evolution in clinical care over the last few decades means life for many living with CF is longer and of greater quality- but these advances do not benefit all people equally and there is much left to do. I am privileged to work with passionate and dedicated colleagues in multidisciplinary clinical and research roles at Imperial College & Royal Brompton Hospital- my heartfelt thanks goes to them for their tireless teamwork.

“My research has been generously supported by the UK’s outstanding patient organisation, the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, in partnership with people living with CF and their families. I thank them for all their insights and their participation in research studies, even when there is nothing to gain for them individually; the altruism of members of the CF community is truly outstanding. The visibility afforded by this award will help to further amplify the community voice, influencing care & research agendas towards optimal and equitable health.”
