Spring Statement
We know that for some people within the CF community, rising energy prices and other cost of living pressures are already challenging, with some people describing impossible choices between adequately heating their homes and eating a good diet – both critical for supporting their health.
In response to this we launched a winter hardship fund back in January to help those struggling in our community. We also wrote to the chancellor in advance of the statement calling for him to make prescription charges free for people with chronic conditions like cystic fibrosis, to increase social security payments like Carer’s Allowance in line with inflation, and to extend the Warm Homes Discount scheme to carers on low incomes.
Even with the changes announced today, people with cystic fibrosis still face steep rises in their cost of living. The rising cost of living and the financial burden of living with a lifelong condition is deeply important to us and we have recently launched a survey in order to enable us to better understand the cost of CF. 86% of the first 500 people who have taken the survey have indicated they are worried about money, and 27% say that they worry about money daily.

We would encourage all members of our community to take part in the cost of CF survey here: https://www.cysticfibrosis.org.uk/the-work-we-do/campaigning-hard/cost-of-cf
Cystic fibrosis (CF) is a genetic condition which causes sticky mucus to build up in the lungs and digestive system. It affects more than 10,800 people in the UK. One in 25 of us carries the faulty gene that causes it, usually without knowing.
