The latest update from the NICE modulator appraisal
Summary
- Commercial negotiations between Vertex and NHS England are underway, but the appraisal could continue well into 2024.
- Future access to these treatments is protected for anyone already taking a modulator treatment, whatever the final outcome.
- People with CF can continue to start on modulator treatments while the NICE process is ongoing.
NHS England have confirmed in a statement that commercial negotiations have started and are on-track, as the process continues
They have again provided reassurance that no one will lose their current access to the modulator treatments, and people can continue to be initiated onto treatment, as clinically appropriate.
The Trust is urging both Vertex and NHS England to work swiftly to end the uncertainty and ensure all those who could benefit from these medicines in the future can do so.
I’m pleased to see the confirmation from NHS England that commercial negotiations are under way. It’s vital that they now work at pace to secure an agreement to remove any uncertainty for those who could benefit from these life-saving treatments in the future. It is also good to see that they have reiterated that access for those already taking the drugs is protected and people can continue to start the treatment while discussions are ongoing.
