The Trust's Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform receives funding from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for the next five years

News -

The Trust’s Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform (CTAP) has received £5.2 million of funding from the USA’s Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to expand access to clinical trials and accelerate the development of new treatments as we unite for a life unlimited, for everyone with cystic fibrosis.

We are delighted to announce that our Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform (CTAP) has been awarded £5.2m of funding for the next five years from the USA’s Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. CTAP is a UK-wide initiative bringing together NHS cystic fibrosis centres to support people with CF to access and participate in CF clinical trials.

Since the programme launch in 2017, we have brought together 27 CF centres across the UK, funded a national team of 25 Trial Coordinators, supported the setup of six early phase research centres and developed resources and information on our Clinical Trials Hub about taking part in clinical trials.

This new funding means that we can continue to grow the CTAP programme to ensure the UK remains a global leader in delivering a broad range of clinical trials developing a variety of new therapies for CF.

Clinical trials are the crucial and significant step in between new medicines being developed in the lab and becoming available for prescription by a doctor. They’re the only way to evaluate whether a new treatment is both safe and effective for use in people – without clinical trials, none of the medications available today, including new modulators, would be available.

We know that new modulators don’t work for everyone, and we know that they are not a cure. We’re at the forefront of innovation and progress. Boundaries will be broken by groundbreaking research and clinical trials as we find discoveries that will change lives for the CF community for the better.

Jess Longmate, Head of Clinical Trials Accelerator Platform at the Trust, said:

"This funding will enable us to expand the CTAP coordinating team and introduce further support and infrastructure of our 27 CTAP centres. It’s fantastic news that we have acquired this additional funding as there is still work to be done in the fight for a life unlimited for everyone with CF. These additional resources will be hugely beneficial in opening new trials in the UK and developing new therapies in a range of CF-related areas."

Stronger together. United and unstoppable. Together, we’re uniting for a life unlimited.
