We're proud to be supporting Wear Yellow Day

Blog -

With just over a week to go until Wear Yellow Day (13 June), we're sharing the story of Michaela and her son Mason, 3, who has cystic fibrosis. Michaela will be showing her support this Wear Yellow Day by organising fundraisers at Fulham Football Club, where her dad works, as well as at a local school, nursery, and pub. We chatted to Michaela about how fundraising makes a huge difference to families such as theirs.

Our amazing Mason has just turned 3 and lives with cystic fibrosis (CF), diagnosed when he was just 3 months old through the heel prick test. Like many families, we had no idea we were both carriers of the gene, or what CF really meant. It’s been a steep learning curve, filled with challenges, but also hope, support, and strength we didn’t know we had.

CF affects Mason’s lungs and pancreas, making everyday things – like going to the park, catching a cold, or starting nursery – more complicated and riskier. We’ve had hospital stays, scary moments and daily routines which can all be incredibly overwhelming. Something as simple as playing in sand or being near stagnant water poses serious risks. But despite it all, Mason takes it all in his stride.

Living with CF means our whole family makes adjustments – constant handwashing, sterilising toys, avoiding shared drinks, and ensuring that there isn’t a cross-infection risk. The mental and emotional toll is real, but the love and support we’ve received keeps us going.

We are incredibly grateful to the Royal Brompton Hospital and the Cystic Fibrosis Trust for their outstanding care and ongoing support – they truly are our heroes. Mason’s big brother is a huge help too! He’s always looking out for him and adapting alongside him.

This year, we’re proud to be supporting Wear Yellow Day on 13 June, raising awareness and vital funds for Cystic Fibrosis Trust. We’ve had an amazing response: Fulham Football Club, where my dad has worked since 2012, is backing the cause wholeheartedly. A local school, Mason’s nursery, and a local pub have also stepped up to show their support.

The more help and support we receive, the closer we are to a cure. Every donation helps fund life-changing research and support for families like ours. Thank you for helping us raise awareness, spread hope, and fight for a brighter future for children like Mason.
