The festive season is often portrayed as a time of joy, celebration, and connection, but for people living with cystic fibrosis (CF), it can also bring greater worries. In a season filled with social events, disruptions to usual routines and winter bugs, it can be a challenge to manage physical and emotional wellbeing while trying to keep up with the festive cheer. Here, CF psychologist Dr Anna Shipton has some tips to help you navigate the Christmas period.
While for many families the festive period is a time of celebration – seeing loved ones, dancing at parties or strolling the Christmas markets. For the CF community, it can also be a time filled with worry – join in and risk infection, or stay at home and miss it all. Julia, whose son Jakub, 4, has CF, knows the struggle all too well. One year, Jakub picked up an infection and spent much of December in hospital. Though he made it home for Christmas, Julia’s worry during the festive season never truly fades. She shares their story.
