Cystic Fibrosis Trust response to the Energy Price cap announcement

David Ramsden, Chief Executive of Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: "Last week the Government took the first steps in addressing the soaring cost of energy which is a particular issue for people with Cystic Fibrosis (CF) who already are struggling and need to stay warm to stay well this winter.

"People with CF already face a significant financial burden because of their condition – from the additional costs needed to maintain a high calorie diet to keeping their homes warm to stave off lung infections, to running an extra fridge to store medications, or medical equipment like ventilators. They are also more likely to lose earnings due to the treatment burden of CF or time spent in hospital.

"Our recent Cost of CF Report revealed that one in three CF families have run out of food before they could afford to buy more, and one in three people with CF have missed hospital appointments due to the cost.

"Even with the action announced today, rising living costs will continue to cause worry and put people’s health at risk this winter. The Government must be prepared to take further action to prevent further hardship this winter for people with long term health conditions like cystic fibrosis."
