CTAP reaches exciting clinical trial milestone!
Study enrolments doubled in the last year
One of the goals of CTAP is to increase opportunities for people with CF to take part in UK research studies. We've increased study opportunities by working with sponsors (the people who fund and run trials) and CF centres to set up more studies in the UK. We also share information about open UK studies through our Trials Tracker and support CF centres across the UK in various ways to make trial referrals easier.
Since we launched CTAP, we’ve supported more than 6,000 study screenings and 4,000 enrolments:
Almost half of these have been in the last 12 months alone (March 2023 to February 2024):

CTAP has supported 70 studies
Since CTAP began, we’ve supported 70 studies and counting. These studies have looked at a wide range of therapeutic areas. As CF research has evolved, so has the range of studies we support. To date, around half have looked at CFTR modulator treatments, while half have focused on other areas such as anti-infectives, mucociliary clearance, genetic therapies and gastrointestinal symptoms:
We've supported all phases of clinical trials, from early phase trials like the new genetic therapy trials, to larger, later phase trials. We've also supported many other types of trials that don’t involve taking a medicine, including non-interventional studies such as the BioResource project.

1,000 people joined the CF BioResource project
More than 1,000 adults and children have joined the CF BioResource. The CF BioResource project is aiming to create a register of people with CF who have agreed to share their genetic information and be contacted about future research studies.

3 ways to support clinical trials
The developments we’ve seen in CF care and research since setting up CTAP have been thanks to people supporting CF research studies, from researchers and clinical teams to people with CF. If you or someone you know has CF, there are many ways you can support this, some of which do not involve taking part in a study.
- Find a clinical trial: You can currently find 18 clinical trials on our Trials Tracker looking for participants. There are trials open to everyone with CF, regardless of whether you are able to take modulators.
- Share your experiences of CF: You can also help shape the future of CF clinical research by sharing your views and experiences of living with CF with researchers. Find out more about our Involvement Group.
- Stay up to date with the latest trial news and opportunities: Sign up to our clinical trials newsletter to receive regular updates about clinical trials news and how to be involved.

Find out more about cystic fibrosis clinical trials. You can also find a list of current trials on the Trials Tracker.
It's thanks to our incredible supporters that we can continue to be at the cutting edge of CF research. Making breakthroughs and discoveries that change lives for the better. Now and in the future. But we know this is just the start. Incredible progress has been made, but there is still a long way to go until everyone with CF can truly live a life unlimited. We won’t stop until we can all lead the lives we want. Until cystic fibrosis stops challenging, damaging or shortening lives. And you can be part of it.
Donate today and help us unite for a life unlimited.
