Cystic Fibrosis Trust launches appeal to ensure everyone affected by CF gets the support they need
CF impacts all of a person’s life choices – from education and work to starting a family. It also affects the whole body, with many people with CF facing CF diabetes, gastrointestinal symptoms, and osteoporosis.
Cystic Fibrosis Trust’s support services include:
- Our Helpline, available to anyone looking for information or support with any aspect of CF.
- A range of welfare grants for those facing severe financial difficulties that are affecting their health and wellbeing
- Support for applying for benefits like Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Disability Living Allowance (DLA)
- Work and education support
Between April 2024 and March 2025, 4,566 Helpline enquiries were answered, and 1,477 welfare grants were given. The Trust is seeing a rise in the amount of extra support it is giving to protect the health of the most vulnerable and those at risk of choosing between heating and eating. £2,180,000 in additional benefits were also accessed by people with CF thanks to their benefits advice service.
Keira, age 18 from Cornwall, is running the London Marathon for the Trust this April.
She said: “The Trust helped me with my Personal Independence Payment (PIP) application for my benefits. I wasn’t sure how to approach the interview and had lots of questions about the process.
“The team at the Trust were great, they helped me fill out the forms, answered all of my questions and gave the best information ahead of my interview, so it was really helpful.
"It’s great to be able to fundraise and find a way to give something back to the Trust after all the help they’ve given me.”
The Helpline is a lifeline for many, especially when CF is just one of the challenges they face. Emotional and physical health are intertwined, and people who contact the Helpline are often at their most vulnerable.
