This month, our amazing supporters raised vital funds and awareness, and the Trust signed a joint statement calling for the inclusion of older people in research.

Simon’s late CF diagnosis

Simon was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF) at 41 after he experienced fertility struggles, and this year he also ran the London Marathon for the Trust. He was featured in The Mirror and his story was also shared in a number of national and regional outlets, raising awareness of CF and the work of the Trust.

Simon said: “I had difficulty with breathing at times, and I would always bring up mucus every day, but I had no idea these symptoms were all to do with the cystic fibrosis.”

The Trust signs joint statement for inclusion of older people in research

The Trust, along with other major charities, has signed a joint statement of intent for the inclusion of older people in research.

The statement is backed by Sir Chris Whitty, England's Chief Medical Officer, who in 2023 published an annual report stressing the need to adapt for an ageing population.

The goal is to encourage and support older people and those with multiple long-term conditions to take part in research. You can read the full news story on our website.

90-year-old climbs Ben Nevis for CF

Peter, who is 90 years old, completed the incredible challenge of climbing Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the UK. He was inspired to take on the challenge as his great-grandson, George, has CF and he also wanted to raise money for the Trust.

Peter’s story was covered in The Oldham Times. He said: “It was an amazing experience to do such an incredible walk in support of children like my great-grandson George, who I love dearly."

Generous donation for the Trust

The late Mayor of Mid and East Antrim, Beth Adger MBE, chose Cystic Fibrosis Trust and Air Ambulance NI as her Mayoral charities.

The Trust would like to say thank you for the generous donation of £8,500, which will allow us to provide emotional, physical, and financial support to everyone with cystic fibrosis and their families, and also enable us to fund lifesaving research.
