This year marked the 22nd anniversary of Carols by Candlelight, an annual event held in memory of Alice Martineau, a talented singer with cystic fibrosis (CF) who died in 2003. It was a star-studded evening with readings from Jenny Agutter, Vincent Franklin, David Haig, Luke Martineau and Camilla Wallace, with actress Anna Maxwell Martin and Made in Chelsea's James Dunmore also attending the special occasion.
The concert took place at St Luke’s Church in Chelsea, on Wednesday 18 December, with carols performed by Winchester College Chapel Choir. They were also joined for a speech by Ivan Palmer, chair of Cystic Fibrosis Trust’s Dorset branch, and father to two adult children with CF.
Jenny Agutter, star of BBC’s Call the Midwife and an ambassador for Cystic Fibrosis Trust said: “I look forward to Carols by Candlelight every year, and love taking part by sharing a reading. It is for me, the beginning of the festive season and a very special occasion, which also raises vital funds for Cystic Fibrosis.”
Vincent Franklin, from Happy Valley, and supporter for Cystic Fibrosis Trust said: “I'm delighted to be a part of this festive event to support the CF community, it is a great cause that is very close to my heart and every donation makes such a big difference."
Ivan Palmer, chair of Cystic Fibrosis Trust’s Dorset branch said “It was a pleasure to be invited to Carols by Candlelight and to have the opportunity to share my family’s CF journey, this annual event is a great opportunity to raise awareness of CF and to fundraise for this very important cause.”
Money raised by the event will go to help the Trust make sure the future is one where no life is limited by cystic fibrosis. For more information and to donate this Christmas go to Carols by Candlelight, you can also watch the recording of the event here.
