This week Boehringer Ingelheim and the UK CF Gene Therapy Consortium (GTC) announced recruitment has begun for a gene therapy trial for people with cystic fibrosis. For over 20 years, Cystic Fibrosis Trust has supported GTC with the development of gene therapies and this is an important milestone for the whole CF community.
David Ramsden, Cystic Fibrosis Trust CEO said: “We’re pleased to see more research is being done on the impact of vaping on children and young people, and that the Love Your Lungs campaign will provide more education on potential harm to developing lungs and brains.
“Smoking and vaping are an extra risk for those with cystic fibrosis, so we continue to call for more research into the long- and short-term effects of exposure to vapes and vaping for those with lung conditions like CF.”
Managing CF and the symptoms requires a heavy and time-consuming treatment burden. Many people with CF take at least thirty tablets day, on top of physiotherapy and nebuliser treatments. As a new study launches designed to capture the views of people with CF on treatment burden, we chatted to Laura, 36, about her daily treatment routine and how it impacts her life.
