CF7: Furlough information, cooking while shielding, our Big Yellow Party, and more

Blog -

Welcome to CF7. Each Friday we’ll share seven pieces of cystic fibrosis (CF) news, resources and community stories from the week. This is a new blog that we are trying out so we’d love to hear your thoughts.

1. Updated employment information for those living with someone who is shielding

We continue to receive queries from people living with someone with CF, who are concerned about how they shield that person when they have to go out to work. This week we have updated our coronavirus help and advice with more information about the furlough scheme, and some useful guidance to support discussions with employers.

2. Blog: Sean’s story of achieving balance

As we build up to CF Week (15–21 June), read Sean's tips on how he balances travelling, treatments, relationships, wellbeing and life in lockdown with his cystic fibrosis. If you have a story of how you balance the challenges of CF with everyday life, find out how you could feature in CF Week too.

3. Online activities for children and young people

We’re running a range of fun online activities over the next few weeks for children and young people with CF, to provide an escape from the boredom of lockdown and improve wellbeing. From gaming nights to yoga classes to circus skills workshops – find out what’s on offer

4. Working to improve the support available to people who are shielding

We’ve been listening to and gathering all your questions about shielding. As governments begin releasing their plans for how lockdown could change over the next few months, we’ve written to the Government teams overseeing shielding across the UK. As things develop, we will provide as much information as we can. Read our latest info on staying home and shielding.

5. Join our Big Yellow Party or host your own

This Wear Yellow Day, we’re inviting you to join our Big Yellow Party on Friday 19 June from 6–7pm for music, fun, surprises and, of course, plenty of yellow. We’d also love for you to organise your own Big Yellow Party fundraiser. Whether it’s a tea party, a silent disco or a karaoke night, we’re here to help

6. New cooking and shopping information for people who are shielding

We’ve worked with CF dietitians to produce some useful information for people with CF and their families who are shielding during the coronavirus outbreak. There's information on useful foods to have on hand, foods that last for a long time, how to make sure you eat enough food, keeping down costs and tips on meal planning. Take a look

7. England adopts opt-out organ donation

On 20 May, England joined Wales in adopting an op-out organ donation system. We are committed to increasing access to successful lung transplants and welcome all progress that could improve the number of organs available. We have lots of transplant resources about different aspects of transplant, from listing to post-transplant.

If you’d like to give us feedback on this new blog, please get in touch by tagging us on Twitter and using #CF7.
