Blog -

Welcome to CF7. Each Friday we share seven pieces of cystic fibrosis (CF) news, resources and community stories from the week.

1. Kaftio formally approved by European Commission

Today, the European Commission formally granted a licence to Kaftrio, the first triple-combination therapy to tackle the underlying cause of cystic fibrosis (CF), bringing hope to thousands of people living with CF across the UK and beyond. Find out more.

2. Staying connected through gaming

Check out Ryan's story of how his passion for video games helps him connect to other people with CF. If you love gaming, how about taking part in a #CFNextLevel challenge to raise funds to support people with cystic fibrosis? We have all the info you need to get you started.

3. Watch now: discussion on returning to school during COVID-19

On Wednesday we held our latest CF LIVE online event: 'Returning and settling back into education'. Our panel answered some of your questions and discussed what support is available as UK schools and colleges return during coronavirus. Watch the recording now.

4. Monitoring COVID-19 and CF

Our Registry team has been working closely with clinical teams to monitor COVID-19 in people with cystic fibrosis across the UK. From this week we will be publishing the current statistics reported to the UK CF Registry on COVID-19 in people with CF every fortnight. Health Data Research UK has published an article about how this data helps to understand the risks.

5. Time to get grilling with a Bubble BBQ!

People around the UK have been enjoying Bubble BBQs as a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with friends and families after so long shielding. Why not safely make the most of the August weather by throwing your own Bubble BBQ to raise vital funds to fight cystic fibrosis? Check out these top tips from BBQ pro Nic Williams, and don't forget to send us your photos!

6. Congratulations to Jordy for Young Scot Awards win!

Jordy Deelight, who hosted our Big Yellow Party during CF Week, has won a Young Scot Award at the 2020 awards, which were held online last week. Jordy, a drag artist and DJ, has developed stage shows to give an insight into life with cystic fibrosis.

7. You’ve got your exam results – now what’s next?

Exam results have been dominating the news recently. If you’ve left school and are still thinking about what’s next, check out our resources to help you make the decisions that are right for you.

We are facing a substantial drop in our fundraising income, at a time when we're seeing an enormous increase in demand for our services. Please consider making a donation to help us continue our work to support people with cystic fibrosis.
