David Ramsden, Chief Executive of Cystic Fibrosis Trust, said: “It’s worrying to see today’s findings from the Trussell Trust showing 68% of working households who receive universal credit have gone without essentials. No one should have to face hunger or go without vital medicines due to lack of money, and for people with cystic fibrosis (CF), continued high costs present a very serious risk to health. Our Your Life and CF report found that 1 in 5 people with CF were missing hospital appointments due to the cost and 1 in 3 were prioritising one essential item over another. In England, people with CF have to pay prescription charges for life-saving medicines, adding yet more financial pressure. We need urgent action from the Government to review the prescription charge exemption list and ensure that people with CF are not forced to miss medication due to cost.”
