  • NHS Low Income Scheme

  • Prescriptions

    Medical exemption certificates

    In ScotlandWales and Northern Ireland, people don’t have to pay for prescriptions but in England prescription charges still apply. However, people with certain medical conditions can get free NHS prescriptions if they have a valid medical exemption certificates. Cystic fibrosis is not on the exemption list; however, you may have another medical condition which is on the list (ie diabetes). 

    Prescription prepayment certificates

    Prescription prepayment certificates (PPCs) lets you get as many NHS prescriptions as you need for a set price. If you regularly pay prescription charges, a PPC could save you money.   • Travel

    You may be able to claim a refund of reasonable travel costs under the Healthcare Travel Costs Scheme (HTCS), if you're referred to hospital or other NHS premises for specialist NHS treatment or diagnostic tests by your doctor, dentist or another primary care health professional.

Prescription charges
