The Trust aims to create a balanced portfolio of research programmes, with both early stage programmes and those addressing later stage clinical programmes. For the latter clinical studies, reference to the outcomes of the James Lind Alliance refreshed CF research priorities is required.

Strategic Research Centres
We have set up our Strategic Research Centres (SRCs) to exploit the latest opportunities in science, encourage internationally-competitive researchers to lend their talents to cystic fibrosis (CF) research, facilitate new partnerships, widen awareness of CF research and recruit the brightest and best young researchers.

Development Awards
Development Awards (DAs) provide funding for researchers to undertake preparatory work to develop future applications for further funding. There are two types of DA available one for Early Career Researchers and one for Established Investigators.

Venture and Innovation Awards
Our Venture and Innovation Awards (VIAs) provide financial support to innovative research projects and allow the Trust to bring in funding from external agencies. Find out more about applying for this stream of funding.

Clinical Fellowships
We have co-funding agreements with Medical Research Council and NIHR to fund the following clinical fellowships:
- MRC Clinical Training Fellowships
- NIHR Predoctoral Clinical and Practitioner Academic Fellowships (PCAF)

Summer Studentships
Our Summer Studentships provide promising medical and basic science undergraduates with hands-on experience of research during the academic summer vacation, with the aim of attracting the brightest and best into a career in CF research.
