The Trust aims to create a balanced portfolio of research programmes, with both early stage programmes and those addressing later stage clinical programmes. For the latter clinical studies, reference to the outcomes of the James Lind Alliance refreshed CF  research priorities is required.

  • Partnership awards - with Action Medical Research

    We are keen to work in partnership with other research funding organisations where we have common interest.

    Our latest partnership funding call is with Action Medical Research. We have teamed up with them fund a project grant in 2024 for translational research into cystic fibrosis in children. Applications will be judged in open competition on both potential clinical impact and scientific quality. Applications for jointly funded applications must meet the remit of both charities.

    Applications may be made for project grants of up to £200,000 and up to three years duration. Up to £200,000 of joint funding is available to spend on co-funded projects as part of this call. Principal Investigators must be based at UK institutions and awards can only be made to UK institutions. Researchers outside the UK can collaborate on UK based projects if appropriate.

  • Strategic Research Centres

    We have set up our Strategic Research Centres (SRCs) to exploit the latest opportunities in science, encourage internationally-competitive researchers to lend their talents to cystic fibrosis (CF) research, facilitate new partnerships, widen awareness of CF research and recruit the brightest and best young researchers.

  • Development Awards

    Development Awards (DAs) provide funding for researchers to undertake preparatory work to develop future applications for further funding. There are two types of DA available one for Early Career Researchers and one for Established Investigators.

  • Summer Studentships

    Our Summer Studentships provide promising medical and basic science undergraduates with hands-on experience of research during the academic summer vacation, with the aim of attracting the brightest and best into a career in CF research.

    The call for applications for summer studentships for 2024 is now open. The deadline for applying is Wednesday 17 April 2024.

  • Translational Innovation Hub Network for Lung Health and Infection in Cystic Fibrosis

    LifeArc and Cystic Fibrosis Trust have agreed to come to together to fund a new Translational Innovation Hub Network for Lung Health and Infection in Cystic Fibrosis. Call for applications has now closed.
