Development Awards (DAs) provide funding for researchers to undertake preparatory work to develop future applications for further funding. There are two types of DA available one for Early Career Researchers and one for Established Investigators.
The study is looking to find new, reliable and straightforward ways of testing for infections that do not require sputum. Accurate diagnosis of infections is more difficult as improved health, in particular with CFTR modulators, leads to less sputum being coughed up. This study will look at new ways of testing for infections that are acceptable for people with CF or chronic suppurative lung disease (CSLD) in order to detect, monitor and treat lung infections early. People with CSLD often suffer with similar infections to people with CF, and so are being invited to take part in the study to...
Vertex has made the decision to stop the investigation of the potential cystic fibrosis gene mRNA therapy (VX-522) and therefore terminated the VX21-522-001 trial. Despite efforts to improve tolerability of the multiple-ascending dose (MAD) portion of the study, including corticosteroids and reducing VX-522 dose, tolerability issues remained; Vertex has decided to not support the continuation of this study. mRNA therapy is a new type of treatment for people with CF, to be assessed in clinical trials. If you are aged between 18 and 65 and have CF mutations that mean you can’t take CFTR modulator treatments, you may be eligible...
Screening for the Multiple Ascending Dose (MAD) part of this trial has now begun.
MAGNIFY is a new research study that aims to look at the lung health of people with cystic fibrosis over time by taking detailed pictures of the lungs using a type of clinical scan called Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which can detect small changes in the lungs when a special gas called Xenon is inhaled. It has been shown that these pictures can detect changes in how the lungs work in those living with cystic fibrosis before any changes are detected using standard measures of lung function. This study is funded by Cystic Fibrosis Trust and is part of the...
Today we announce the latest winners of our Helen Barrett Bright Idea Awards, named in memory of Helen Barrett, a successful entrepreneur with cystic fibrosis who, together with her partner, launched a gym that is still thriving today.
Tilly and Joseph are members of Cystic Fibrosis Trust’s Youth Advisory Group (YAG) and both live with CF diabetes (CFD). They spoke to Dr Ildem Akerman and Prof Victoria Salem about their Trust-funded research project investigating a novel type of treatment for CF diabetes.
